Pasar Malam Besar ke 50, Den Haag

Every year the Indonesian community represented by Tong tong foundation holds an event called Pasar Malam Besar. This year it was for 12 days from 21st May – 1st June 2008. It’s a really nice place to be especially when you miss your hometown. You can find anything here; traditional music and dance performance, theater, cooking show, photo exhibitions even some government department such as the tourism had a stand to promote Visit Indonesia 2008. We can also find basic bazaar staple; textiel, handycraft, food, souvenirs, books...they all came all the way from Indonesia. So prepare to bring huge stacks of euro πŸ˜‰

As for us, we got some stuff that I bought there, ok some is not the word as they are; durian, kelapa muda, spekkoek, sate kambing and sate ayam, martabak asin, batik top, batik shirt, kebaya, kripik paru (which Peter finds weird πŸ˜› ), a small indonesian flag sticker saying ‘indonesia’, tabloid saji (so surprise that I could find it there) and the last on the way out after digging in really deep in our wallet a small bird eye chili tree πŸ˜€

Here are some of my findings, enjoy and I will definitely come again next year.Banana tree at the entrance hall.Yummy pisang goreng…hmmm heel erg lekker.
One of the food stall, look at the Balinese Barong on the ceiling. The central stage where you can watch music and dance performance.Jajanan pasar yang menggugah selera.Kucing-kucing from Bali πŸ™‚Sate kambing at one of the stall. Enough to satisfy my craving.Piles of kelapa muda…hmm enjoy this while closing your eyes and imagine that you are sitting by the beach in Bali.Peter took a pose with the ondel-ondel and the 5 euro Bali shirt that he just bought.
Stacks of pretty colorful boxes. In Bali, Balinese use these boxes to carry their offering to the temple.Beautiful wayang golek.

150 pieces Sate Ayam Madura

Yesterday was a birthday party of two members of my host family, Vanessa the mother and Berend the son. She asked whether I could make sate ayam for the party. The people who were expected to come are approx 40 so we decided on making 150 pieces of sate. The last time I made sate was 40 pieces so I thought piece a cake.

We bought 8 double chicken fillet and 4 huge chicken thigh. Somehow I don’t really fancy sate made only from chicken fillet as they are tend to be too dry. Thigh on the other hand have some skins and fats on it which will make the sate juicy…hmm yummy.
After 2 hours finally I finished cutting them and put
them in neat sticks. pfiuh. After that I put them in marinade, the longer the better they say…so I put them overnight, hahaha.

The recipes for the marinade and sate sauce I got from resepnugraha. I really love their recipe. Have used it twice and always turned out really well.

At the party we served the sate with white rice, krupuk, fried onion, serundeng, kacang goreng, acar timun which I also made myself, and last French bread. Ok don’t ask me why, but that’s how Dutch people eat their sate, with French bread.

150 sate sticks gone in no time. People made lots of positive comments; who made them, they tasted really nice etc. I was so happy that it turned out really well. Three Hours of grilling in the balcony with 2 small electric grill together with my boyfriend was paid off.

Besides sate I also m
ade cupcakes as a gift for Vanessa and Berend. 12 cupcakes in the green and blue color match as Berend’s bedroom. I made or actually my boyfriend made an attempt to make pirate’s face on the cupcake as it is also Berend’s favorite. I also put some writing on the cupcakes. Tried to make Vanessa but the surface was too small or rather my writing was too big hahaha. So I only managed to write Vaness. The cupcakes result was very good seeing my ability to decorate hahaha. Thank you for Mbak Yulia and Cupcake Momma for the inspiration.

Haiya….I’m back people….but brrr it’s really cold here. Well after 3 months of sun suddenly I’m not ready for this cold. But I’m really glad I could go back before the estimated time plus it was before xmas so I could celebrate xmas and new year here.

Blognya istirahat dulu ya…..

Hi everyone….I’m very very sorry I can’t update anything on my blog for some time. I’m in Bali now and as you all know how it is with internet in Indonesia. πŸ˜‰ Just enjoy some pictures of my Bali here

Home

Sorry for the lack of post for the couple of weeks. (Hehehe kayak ada yang baca aja!!! :P) I have been busy with some stuff relating with my coming back home. And boy in 1 year one can really collect a lot of stuff (mostly junk). πŸ˜› So I had to sort them out in categories; to bring home, to chuck in the bin and to leave here.

Can’t wait to get back home though there’s one thing that I would definitely miss from Holland. The super duper fast internet connection. Tau sendiri kan koneksi di Indo super duper lambreta…So I am not sure what become if my blog when I am back home. :-s

See you Holland, wait for me next year. πŸ˜€ πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Lusi

I know Lusi from the internet (friendster), I saw that she is also living in Holland. I contacted her and in the end we found out that
we got many mutual friends. She is a a very cheerful girl (kalo ga
mau dibilang c
erewet Lus :P) who always smile, laugh and has thousands of crazy stories and acts.

Last Saturday she celebrated her birthday party. Of course we didn’t let the chance to pass just like that. No we didn’t mean that we didn’t want to pass the chance to meet you Lus, but what we meant is we didn’t want to pass the chance to eat nice Indonesian food πŸ˜› naah just kidding honey.

By the time we got there, there were already many people, Lusi’s host family, Olivia, Sarah and Marcel, Andri, Yaya, Rosa. Hesti was still picking up some friends at the train station. When all people has arrived, dinner started…yum…there were bakso and mie ayam pangsit as starter. As for the main course there were ayam kecap, rendang, acar, some stir fry vegetables, all were delicious. When I asked who cooked all the food, Lusi proudly say “of course it was us (meaning Lusi, Hesti, Olivia and Yaya) w ho cooked all these food, what do you think?” As I don’t really believe her words, (sorry girl bukannya meremehkan hehehe) so I asked Hesti again about the truth. Hesti said “of course it wasn’t us who cooked all these food, what do you think” hehehe it turned out a woman a friend of Lusi who cooked. πŸ˜› Oalah Lus Lus….But nevertheless, your party was a great time with many good friends and new friends as well.

Anyway Happy Birthday Lus, was it 29th or 26th birthday. πŸ˜› We wish you all the very best in life. Cepet dapet jodoh ya nak. πŸ˜›

Merdeka!!!!!

As we all know, August 17th is Indonesian Independence Day and this
year it’s
the 62nd. How did you celebrated that day? Especially to most of us who live outside Indonesia. Me and friends celebrated where else but at the Indonesian Embassy in Den Haag. The flag ceremony took place at the embassy but the celebration took place at the Sekolah Indonesia which is located very close to the embassy.. It started form 11.30 am – 7.00 pm. The place was so crowded, it seemed that all Indonesian in Holland were there.

What do you expect from this kind of celebration?? A stage with

Indonesian entertaiment; keroncong by Sundari Soekotjo, Dangdut (which was like usua
l the erotic type of dangdut), pop music from PPI (Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia) students, raffles with nice prizes (tiket mudik Amsterdam – Jakarta pp). But of course what we llike most was the food stalls which was full of all the nice foods whether heavy food to fill empty tummy like nasi timbel, nasi rames, nasi gudeg, soto ayam, sate ayam, sate dan gule kambing, sate padang or if you just fancy some light food like bakso, mie ayam, siomay, batagor,, pempek palembang. There were also lots of Indonesian snacks like lumpia, lemper, soes, panada, pisang goreng, rujak( I even saw one stall with a huge pestle and mortar to make fresh rujak). All were ready to satisfy your craving of real Indonesian food that taste just like back home.

Happy Birthday Indonesia, we all hope that we can be better.

Leftover Noodle Soup and Throw-any-leftover-in-the-fridge-stir-fry

Yesterday I still had some leftovers from the previous day. So for lunch I made this noodle soup from one package of Indomie (Indonesian must know this instant noodle), boiled in the leftover of bakso (oo wuppie there were still
two meatballs there), topped with the rest of the chicken wantan filling, sprinkled with spring onion and fried onion. Walah quick and tasty noodle soup. πŸ™‚

Then for dinner I made what I called throw-any-leftover-in-the-fridge-stir-fry. Why? Well I used whatever I had in the fridge like tofu and tauge from the ketoprak yesterday. Added some chopped onion, green bean and tiny bit of mince meat. For the spices I also just used whatever in the cupboard; some crushed garlic, soy sauce, kecap manis, oyster sauce, sesame oil and some sprinkle of spring onion. The result?? Better ask my boyfriend about that. πŸ˜‰
