Mashed Potato with Omelette and Green Peas

Home Made Bolognese Sauce

I don’t really fancy the taste of tomato sauce or bolognese sauce out of the jar so instead I always make lots of bolognese sauce, freeze it then use it whenever I feel like it. It’s good for spaghetti, lasagna or pizza sauce.

Recipe:
1 large onion chopped
5 cloves of garlic chopped
1 large red chili chopped (to add a bit of a spicy taste to my Indonesian taste bud)
500 gr minced meat
1000 gr chopped tomato (fresh or from a can)

1 small can of tomato puree
handful fresh basil leaves

1 tbs salt
1 tbs pepper

1 tbs dried oregano or Italian mixed spices

How to make:
1. Fry garlic until fragrant.
2. Add chopped onion and chili, fry until the onion is tender.
3. Add minced meat, fry until meat turns color.
4. Add chopped tomato and tomato puree.
5. Add the rest of the spices.
6. Let it simmer for approx 30 mins.

Can be freezed in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Dutch Food

My boyfriend cooked dinner today. So what to expect when a Dutch cooks? of course Dutch food. What is the typical Dutch food? It’s mostly consist of three portions of food; one portion of potato either baked, mashed, boiled, one portion of vegetables like carrots, peas, green bean, and one portion of meat. Food like that it’s alright as long as I don’t have to eat it everyday, I
still love my rice very much. Just joking honey. πŸ˜› I eat whatever you cook. πŸ™‚

Tortilla Wraps

I tried Mexican Wrap Style Tortilla for dinner tonight. I don‘t know whether I should call it taco or burrito as I don’t really know how real Mexican food are. But I don’t care as long as it tastes good, it’s fine by me. πŸ˜› What I put inside my tortilla was chicken cooked with taco seasoning, chopped tomato and onion, finely shredded lettuce and salsa. It turned out to be very nice and spicy just like what I like. πŸ™‚

Fried Wantan, Bakso, Ketoprak

I know that it seems I am so crazy over wantan, wether it’s wantan soup, friend wantan, just give me all kinds πŸ™‚ I blame my friends Hesti and Lusi who introduced me to this tasty litle morsel. It was a rainy day in Amsterdam when Lusi got hungry (humm typical eh Lus? ) So they dragged me to this Chinese Restaurant in China town called New King. They boasted about the best ever wantan soup in the world. I said ok prove it. And yes it was marvelous. The wantan was tasty as well as the soup. It’s truly a winner. Ever since that day I’m obsessed with this dish. So today I made myself fried wantan with chicken filling. I minced the chicken and mixed it with onion, little bit of siy sauce, kecap manis, salt, pepper, oyster sauce, sesame oil.

I had the bone from the chicken so let’s make it into bakso. (Indonesian meatball soup). Boiled the chicken bone, added some garlic, salt, pepper, spring oni on. There were still meatballs in the freezer, threw in some wantan and voila bakso. Enough to satisfy my crave of Indonesian-most-missed-dish -when-they-are-out-of-the-country. πŸ˜€

There was still more after this πŸ™‚ I am sure all Indonesian knows ketoprak (well at least those who lives in Java or from Java). No not The Ketoprak Dance :p the food I mean. Made from bihun (rice noodle), tauge, fried tofu, topped with peanut sauce, kerupuk and a little sprinkle of friend onion. πŸ™‚ Well what I made of course not the original ketoprak, maybe it’s the Dutch version, because I used instant peanut sauce πŸ˜› but overall my boyfriend said that they were delicious. Humm were you saying the truth or just being polite. πŸ˜‰

French toast anyone?

Grey Monday morning, as always!!! Why I say as always. I have been marking the days in the past couple of months and I noticed that Monday and Tuesday are always bad!! Like if in the weekend weather was great, or at least okay, then Monday and Tuesday are always rainy and cold! Just like today…what kind of a phenomenon is this??

Anyway, woke up early this morning, couldn’t go back to sleep. Thinking what should I eat (also as always πŸ˜‰ ). There’s still some nasi goreng in the fridge, I think I’m going to have that later. But let me show you what I made on Saturday morning. I know a bit late to show it now, but better late than never πŸ˜€ It’s F rench toast. I remember when I was a little girl, my American foster grandmother was the one who introduced me with French toast. Me and my siblings usually spent weekend at her place and she would make nice warm French toast for breakfast. At the time, I thought how fascinating that one can eat bread in a such way. And being American she loved to eat French toast with maple syrup. But since no maple syrup was available in the kitchen I just used honey, also equally yummy. Humm French toast, reminds me of my childhood memory πŸ™‚
